Simplicity

Being with my kid makes me realize how growing older tarnishes our innocent nature as human beings. My son, one and a half years old, can give me nostalgic flashbacks to how I viewed life when I was his age. Everything was amazing.

Today we were walking along the sidewalk with the sun shining on our backs, and my son suddenly got very excited about something. He was pointing ahead and yelling baby gibberish, but I couldn't figure out what it was. Suddenly I realized - he had just noticed his shadow for the first time.

We entertained ourselves for several minutes waving to and running with our shadows, and I realized that until this moment I had not given my shadow a second thought since I was very young. And, as I was reminded, shadows are an amazing thing - everything is amazing - we just forget about this as we grow old and become concerned with so many things, most of which I would not describe as amazing.
